Isa Tapia is a Manhattan-based women's footwear designer. Prior to launching her namesake label in 2012, Tapia studied at Parsons School of Design and went on to work for legends like Marc Jacobs and eventually Oscar de la Renta, where she spent time in Italy learning the ins and outs of shoemaking. Tapia is quick to give De la Renta credit for inspiring and nurturing her talent. "Oscar taught me the meaning of elegance," says Tapia. "The femininity in my collection is because of him."
These experiences combined with Tapia's entrepreneurial spirit led her to unveil her own line of standout footwear with her Fall 2012 collection, appealing to major women's fashion publications like Vogue, W, and Harper's Bazaar, and lining the shelves of Saks, Bloomingdales, and Bergdorf Goodman. Tapia's playful sophistication, versatility and signature use of color was not only noticed by the media and major retailers worldwide, it also landed her a spot in CFDA's Fashion Incubator Program, Class of 2014-2016.
Isa Tapia was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She resides in New York City and spends much of her time traveling to Europe, Asia and South America. When she's not designing, Tapia can be found sleeping on planes in her Breakfast at Tiffany's eye mask, doodling in her sketchbook late at night in NYC's Strand Bookstore, perusing Harvey Nichols' Foodmarket, collecting Japanese stickers, or enjoying a good Bordeaux amongst friends.
